Out-of-Pocket Maximum: $12,000
The most a marketplace plan can make you pay for covered care in 2027 is $12,000 for one person and $24,000 for a family, up from $10,600 and $21,200 in 2026.
No Cap on Paying Back Extra Credit
Since tax year 2026, if your income ends up higher than you estimated, you repay all of the extra advance tax credit when you file. An accurate income estimate protects you from a surprise bill.
Bronze Plans Work With an HSA
Marketplace bronze and catastrophic plans count as HSA-eligible since January 1, 2026, so you can set aside pre-tax money for care. Compare HSA vs FSA for the 2027 limits.
From 2027, premium tax credits go to U.S. citizens and eligible noncitizens. Ask us if you're not sure how this applies to someone in your household.
2027 Tax Credit Income Limit by Household Size
Tax credits for 2027 coverage use the 2026 federal poverty guidelines. Your household qualifies when its expected 2027 income falls between 100% and 400% of these amounts.
Income means modified adjusted gross income for everyone on your tax return. Self-employed? Use your expected net profit.

Open Enrollment 2027 FAQ
Can I Change Plans After Open Enrollment Ends?
Only after a qualifying life event, and you usually have 60 days from it. Members of federally recognized tribes can enroll or change plans any time. See how a Special Enrollment Period works.
What If My Income Changes During 2027?
Report the change to the marketplace as soon as you can, and your monthly tax credit is recalculated for the rest of the year. We can walk you through the update.
Will My Doctor Still Be in Network in 2027?
Not always. Insurers change their networks and drug lists each year, so a plan that covered your doctor in 2026 may not in 2027.
Do I Need to Re-Enroll Every Year?
Most marketplace plans renew automatically if you do nothing, but premiums, networks and your tax credit can all change. Update your income and compare plans every Open Enrollment, so you don't keep a plan that no longer fits.
